The Far Platform

The Far Platform

This is the latest of all the projects. It is a structure based at around 15m with multiple levels of platform with the upper level at around 6m depth, yes that makes it about 9 meters or 30 foot tall!,. The platform was intentionally built on the far side so that divers may be dropped off from the boat, and work their way back using the rope course. Also there is an angled rope from the top of the 'tower' down to the Tank. This allows the practice of a simulated 'sea-dive' from a Dan buoy.

Construction

The platform's construction has taken several years and nears completion. It is built with standard scaffolding on a foundation of six 200 litre barrels half filled with concrete plus two others acting as outriggers giving lateral stability. The hardest part of construction was to align the barrels to form the foundation. As there is a thick sediment layer any work soon turns the 'viz to zero preventing any alignment by sight. Gradually with the use of winches and lifting tackle the foundation was completed and the structure built.
